On behalf of the parish and the staff of St. Procopius/Providence of God our condolences on the death of your family member or friend. Be assured of our prayers for them and for you.

This information sheet may be helpful as you begin to make funeral arrangements for the deceased.

We ask that all funeral arrangements be made through the funeral director who will then contact us with all of the funeral details.

Visitation

May occur at the funeral home or the Church. Please talk with the funeral director about these options.

Music

After you have made arrangements with the funeral home, they will contact us to let us know if you want to include music as part of the funeral liturgy. We will then contact one of the St. Procopius musicians and they will provide the music for the funeral liturgy.

Liturgy

The priest who presides at the funeral liturgy is to be consulted regarding all the details of the Mass including the choice of Scripture readings. Deacons may preside at wakes and cemetery burials

Cremation

is now allowed by the Church. However, the Church asks that the cremated remains of the individual be buried or interred as soon as possible after the Mass. They are not to be scattered or kept in the family home, a funeral home or separated into multiple urns. Cremated remains are given the same respect as the body they were. Furthermore, cremated remains should be placed beforehand in an urn by a staff member of the funeral home or crematorium, and not done in the church.

Parking is available in the parking lot at St. Procopius and in the parking lot at Holy Trinity Croatian (1850 S. Throop Street) and at Providence of God (18th & Union).
